Message from Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh: Vote and Encourage Others to Vote

To all of our dear students in the Holy Land, may it be rebuilt speedily in our days,

God’s blessing upon you!

We are now just a short time before another general election. At stake are important issues regarding the Nation of Israel, the Torah of Israel and the Land of Israel. Although we anticipate true Torah-based leadership, we must take part in the current elections. This is the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s well-known opinion in all the elections – and how much more so when the choice is between the bloc that has a propensity toward loyalty to the values of the Nation of Israel and the bloc that includes those who oppose the idea of the uniqueness of the Nation of Israel, the Torah of Israel and the Land of Israel – and is even willing to rely on the votes of blatant Israel haters.

Beyond the personal obligation to vote, a blessed initiative to help on the ground has been launched – for the days preceding the elections and on Election Day itself – in order to encourage our brothers to go out and vote. Expert analysis of the previous rounds of elections  shows us that the lack of a clear winner in the previous rounds of elections and the danger of failure this time are the result of a collective ‘slumber’ of potential voters, particularly in the right-leaning cities – and this is where the chance to win and lead is hidden.

We must remember that “Israel’s heart is warm” and beneath the external slumber, a vital, wakeful heart – just waiting for the spark to light it – is beating. Beyond the importance of winning these elections, this situation is an ‘agent’ from Heaven – a golden opportunity to meet good, warm Jews face-to-face, to increase love of Israel and awaken hearts to add on to their practice of Torah and mitzvot and all things Jewish. Every new meeting between Jews is a unification, and with God’s help, this service of unification will bear fruit beyond the elections, until the bringing of the true and complete redemption.

“Let us be strong and strengthened on behalf of our Nation and on behalf of the cities of our God!”

With love to you,

Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh
