Q&A: Regret for the Past

Q: How much do I have to feel regret for my past sins?

A: One can and should ponder over and feel regret for the state of his service of God until this point, feeling that all was superficial, deceptive and self-deceptive until now. The depth of your regret should only be to the point that it motivates you to take on the challenge of “nothing stands in the way of teshuvah” – to take new challenges and more perfect service of God upon yourself with renewed vigor and joy. In one hour and in one moment a person can change (for the better) to the opposite extreme.
