Q&A: Limit to Therapy

Q: I have been going through a rough time over the past years, and have been going for therapy with a Chassidic therapist from Rabbi Ginsburgh’s school for Jewish psychology, Torat Hanefesh. The therapy has been effective, but I feel that it is bringing up so much pain that sometimes it is difficult for me to function – particularly in caring for my children. I will be grateful for the Rabbi’s advice and blessing.

A: May you be blessed with full balance in your soul and joy of life. Every treatment of this sort should be limited by time. Work with the therapist to better understand yourself and how to deal with difficulties and after x amount of sessions, leave the therapist and work on your own. (You can always go back for more advice if needed).

May God bless you with happiness – and pleasure from your growing family.
