Rosh Chodesh Iyar marks the hilula (yahrzeit) of the Admor of the Land of Israel, Rebbe Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk, the student of the Magid of Mezritch who made aliyah to the holyland in the 18th century with 200 Chassidic families–the first aliyah of the modern era.
